Dear friends, a quick note about the link: Yes, it's another gardening project in Gambia. And no, we don't have a secret passion for African radishes – it just happened that way. Alpha, 24, formerly a student, then seriously ill with tuberculosis, was saved thanks to German doctors, but his lungs have been working more or less on "part-time" ever since. His mother cared for him so devotedly that she kept postponing her own eye surgery – until it was too late. Today she is blind. So Alpha now manages the household, including his 10-year-old nephew Demba. We suggested a mini-gardening project. The result: Alpha built a fence against the voracious neighbor's cows. Demba dug like a champion. The blind mother sowed each seed with Zen-like precision. The cows provided the fertilizer – very generously, very regularly. Seeds came from Germany. And suddenly, Bavarian radishes and turnips are bestsellers in Gambia. Globalization can be so delicious. Cost to us: €180. Benefit: A family that can provide for itself. Challenge: Alpha carries each liter of water 300 meters. In the Sahel. Several times a day. That's fitness, just without the protein shake. If you don't have any euros to spare – no problem. A short comment, a compliment, a "Well done, Alpha!" works wonders for his self-confidence. And yes: The Facebook group is one of our many groups through which we advise people in developing countries. It's worth taking a look.

My Garden Project Hello! My name is Alpha. I started a garden project to grow fresh vegetables and improve my gardening skills. The project began this month. I have already prepared the plot and finished the fence. I have also purchased various vegetables, including tomatoes, bitter tomatoes, and peppers. In addition, Dr. Groitl sent more vegetables by mail; these are currently in transit and need to be picked up. The goals of this project are: to provide healthy food, to reduce food expenses, and to learn practical farming skills. In conclusion, I believe this garden project will be an enriching experience that promotes both a healthy lifestyle and sustainable food production.

Harvesting hope:

How Helping Hands Green Ocean is fostering sustainable growth in Lamin Kunkujang Jataya. In the heart of Lamin Kunkujang Jataya, a small village in Gambia, the vision of Helping Hands Green Ocean has taken root – quite literally. With the organization's support, members of the local community have embraced sustainable agriculture, planting fruit trees such as mango and lemon alongside staple crops like okra and sorrel. This initiative has transformed the landscape and promises long-term food security, economic growth, and ecological resilience.

The community's dedication to caring for these plants is already bearing fruit. The mango and lemon trees, symbols of growth and resilience, are thriving and offer the village the potential for fruit harvests in the coming years. Alongside the fruit trees, the village's vegetable gardens provide fresh, nutritious produce such as okra and sorrel, enriching the community's diet while reducing its reliance on imported goods. This success is a testament to the power of community-led initiatives and the impact of Helping Hands Green Ocean's strategic support. By promoting sustainable agriculture, this project not only strengthens food security but also fosters environmental protection through reforestation and biodiversity. As the trees and plants mature, they contribute to soil health, prevent erosion, and enhance the ecosystem surrounding Lamin Kunkujang Jataya.

The support of Helping Hands Green Ocean has proven essential in establishing a sustainable foundation for growth. The harvest is more than just food; it's about hope, opportunity, and a healthier planet. With each season, the community moves closer to achieving greater resilience and sustainability while maintaining its connection to the land. As the project progresses, we look forward to even more promising yields and to showcasing the remarkable journey of Lamin Kunkujang Jataya, a village where the seeds of change have truly taken root.
