Keeping goals in mind – as times change
Actually, the work of our NGO was clearly and simply defined. Back then, in 2003, the focus was still on promoting and implementing oceanographic projects for the protection of the seas.
The perspective changed with the first mangrove projects (Senegal), the "Plastic from the Sea" campaign, and the suggestion for various marine conservation and fishery protection areas.
We increasingly focused on the people who live on or near the sea. New goals were defined and new tasks developed. People and their fates began to move back into focus.
Today, our NGO defines itself through nature conservation projects, but also through a wide range of tasks in the field of environment and development.
We see ourselves as advocates of:
Sustainability in our interaction with nature. We support and promote projects that are good for future generations, to protect the environment for our future generations as well.
to preserve for future generations.
Equal rights for women and men:
Scholarships and grants for students and institutions.
Horticultural projects for groups and communities focus on subsistence farming, generating a reliable surplus.
Support programs for the establishment of family businesses and cooperatives near (Gambia, Uganda) and carpentry workshops form the first pilot projects here.
We support education through scholarships and the creation of apprenticeships.
We focus on health and nutrition by providing informational materials and in-kind donations to
Healthcare facilities. Clean water and hygiene are part of that.
What we must most urgently avoid with our work is creating dependency and feelings of being patronized! "Help for self-help" is the strategy we have been successfully using for decades.
Our membership in Europe is incredibly diverse: from students, factory workers, homemakers, IT specialists, globetrotters, reporters, skilled workers, and scientists from various disciplines – everyone is welcome, and everyone contributes their knowledge and experience to the success of our projects. Sometimes, even small tips – about fish food, simple woodworking techniques, baby food, or growing vegetables – can lead to significant change and personal improvements on the "other side of the world." We can all play a small part!

The European Development Days (EDD) 2022
By Mr. Demba Sabally: The Young Leaders Program at the European Development Days (EDD) 2022 will take place from June 21 to 22, 2022. The organizing team in Brussels will select young adults aged 21 to 26 from around the world who have demonstrated their expertise and leadership on the EDD 2022 platform, which I would have already chosen to attend this year as a student and young leader. The European Development Days (EDD) are Europe's leading forum for international partnerships. Organized by the European Commission, the forum brings together key players to exchange ideas and experiences in a way that inspires new partnerships and innovative solutions to the world's most pressing challenges. For its 15th edition, the EDD will focus on "Global Gateway: Building a sustainable partnership for a connected world." Global Gateway is the new European strategy to promote smart, clean, and secure connections in digital, energy and climate, transport, health, education, and research systems worldwide. It establishes a sustainable and trustworthy connection that works for people and the planet to address the most pressing global challenges, including climate change and protecting the environment, health and safety, increasing competitiveness, and improving global supply chains. The EDD offers a unique opportunity for young people from around the world with strong expertise and a commitment to positive social change to share their views, influence decision-makers and stakeholders, and develop further leadership skills. According to the regulation in June 2022, the EDD will select those selected at the high-level panels in Brussels to be invited as EDD Young Leaders. According to the regulation in June 2022, EDD22 will invite exceptional young leaders from around the world with strong expertise and a commitment to positive social change to participate in the on-site session in Brussels. In dialogue with the development community, they will be the voice of their generation. This year's EDD will focus on "Global Gateway: Building Sustainable Partnerships for a Connected World." The discussions will be organized around five main themes and related topics.
- Digital @ Inclusive and green digital growth @ Open and secure internet @ Digitally organized and data economies.
- Climate and energy @ Green and only energy transition @ Integration energy market
- Transport @ Infrastructure Connectivity @ Green and safe mobility @ Urban development, smart and interconnected cities.
- Health @ Security of supply chains and development of local manufacturing.
- Education and Research @ The Quality of Education
My tasks and goals
- Building sustainable partnerships, as the focus of the conference is, will open a gateway for people and planets to tackle the most pressured global challenges.
- To lobby for funding and support in other growing sub-project groups in Gambia.
- To learn new techniques and explore them in practice, Green Ocean promoted the growing revitalization projects in Gambia and cooperative work among all group members and coordinators.
- I will be holding a post-conference meeting with key sponsors and partners in Germany to seek their advice and suggest ways to improve development projects in Gambia. Ultimately, the group members and Green Ocean believe this will help me and the organization achieve its goals. Thank you. Sincerely, Demba Sabally. Email: saballydemba01@gmail.com Tel: 2205196552
How to do: Helping Hands e.V.

They only represent the opinions of the authors, and as an NGO, we cannot guarantee their objectivity or accuracy. Comments on individual articles are very welcome, but please always post them as comments and not as separate articles. Of course, we also welcome your articles.
Please register as a member of the individual groups. This is not a paid membership; it simply gives us an overview of the number of people interested in each subject area. We welcome your participation and assistance, either as an author in the Facebook groups or as a member of our NGO (you can find the membership application in the menu under Files). Our working methods:
In developing countries, we try to achieve this with 5 simple steps.
Our goals are to enable people to lead independent and self-reliant lives:
1. Encouragement to form local groups in developing countries, to actively promote neighborhood assistance and neighborhood projects.
2. Establishment of local microbanks to support local groups and their projects through short-term and unbureaucratic microloans.
3. Through Facebook groups and forums, we support the exchange of information, experiences, and ideas to promote and inspire local projects. A networking system is established.
4. Supporting, accompanying and financially promoting targeted projects to ensure their sustainability.
5. Reporting on problems, solutions, and projects to facilitate the broad exchange of experiences and information. In addition to data collection, disseminating information and educating decision-makers in the field of environment and development, particularly in development policy, is a crucial task.
Together we can bring about change.
